Cruise Ship Docks in Bristol for the First Time Since Pandemic

A cruise ship has set sail from Bristol Port, UK for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. After the launch of Ambition in May 2023, the cruise ship is now embarking on its inaugural sailing from Bristol on a British Isles Discovery cruise.

For her arrival into the British port, Svitzer’s powerful tugboats performed a majestic water cannon display, as the ship began to enter the lock – a maritime tradition for a ships first visit to a new port.

Ambassador Cruise Line specialises in no-fly itineraries and offers a range of sailings, from adult-only cruises to multi generational voyages during school holidays, making it a perfect choice for families seeking quality time together that don’t wish to fly abroad. In the upcoming cruise season, Ambassador plans to host six sailings departing from Bristol, with an expected 7,440 guests embarking from the region.

James Stangroom, Director at The Bristol Port Company, expressed his excitement, saying, “We are pleased to welcome Britain’s newest cruise line to Bristol Port, giving local residents of the West a quality range of no-fly cruises from the Port.”

While Kathryn Davis, Managing Director of Visit West, said ‘Ambition’ would bring a huge boost to Bristol’s visitor economy.

He said: “Ambition’ setting sail from Bristol is a significant milestone in Ambassador’s regional departure program. With nine out of ten guests recommending a sailing with the cruise line, Ambassador is ready to provide guests from the region with the warmest welcome at sea in the months and years to come. As the world of travel evolves, Ambassador Cruise Line continues to be a popular choice among both new and seasoned cruisers, thanks to its competitive prices and the convenience of departing from the UK, where the onboard currency is in pound sterling. Bristol Port and Ambition are poised to offer traveller’s a delightful escape, promising unforgettable adventures on the high seas.”
